Apicoectomy & Pulp Revascularization Mountain View

Although root canal treatment is our primary focus at The Modern Endodontist, it’s not the only service that we offer. We also specialize in microscopic apicoectomies and pulp revascularization. Below are some details about these tooth-saving procedures.

Microscopic Apicoectomy

While root canal treatments have an extremely high success rate, they can still become reinfected from time to time. If your old root canal treatment happens to be unsuccessful, there are options to explore other than extraction. One of those options is an apicoectomy.

What Is a Microscopic Apicoectomy?

Apicoectomy is actually a simple procedure, typically performed when a root canal is not completely successful, and the apical part (the tip) of the root remains infected. This procedure requires entering through your gums to remove the infection with a very high degree of precision, using microscope technology. Not to worry, they call our doctor “Mrs. TLC” for a reason - and she has done this procedure hundreds of times!

What Is the Apicoectomy Recovery Like?

It may sound a bit intimidating, but an apicoectomy procedure is fairly simple and does not require a long recovery period. You can expect a bit of swelling and discomfort, but most recipients will be returning to their everyday lives within 24 hours of the procedure. Overall, the bone should fully heal around the root within a few months.

Pulp Revascularization

While endodontic treatment is more often something that adults require, that doesn’t mean that there’s no need for pediatric endodontists in the world. That’s why Dr. Yarah Beddawi and the team at The Modern Endodontist offer pulp revascularization, a brand-new and up-and-coming procedure, to all of our young patients with immature permanent teeth.

What Is Pulp Revascularization?

Pulp revascularization is a procedure designed to preserve the pulp (or part of it) and strengthen tooth structure and integrity in teeth that have not completely erupted.

The procedure requires multiple and frequent visits, and it was only recently approved, but it can be life-changing when applied to the right candidates. We offer general anesthesia to our pediatric patients when requested by a parent. If you would like to learn more about pulp revascularization in Mountain View, please call us!
